When we got home, and I was taking him out of his car seat, he said, “Want a piece of meat?” Interestingly enough, Woody says this line to Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story, but of course, the line is “Want a piece of me?”

When I replied, “No, I don’t want a piece of meat.” He responded with, “Want a piece of cheese?”

But, frankly, we are very busy with, well, life.

Matteo is doing very well with his potty training. He wears pull-ups every day and sits on the toilet or stands next to it to do his business. Though we are quite pleased with his progress, he is still working on mastering the poop part. Sometimes we make it, sometimes we don’t.

Matteo turns two in a couple of weeks. Has it really been two years? In May, Christopher turns four. Time certainly flies…

Christopher seems to have hit a milestone of his own. He no longer throws a fit when we go to school in the morning. Of course, now that I write this, he will regress. Ugh. Seriously, though, he has been very mature about it.

Here is a recent family photo…

I am not sure if we are jinxing ourselves by starting the diary this soon, but today Matteo said, “pee-pee”, which honestly I wasn’t sure if that meant he had to go to the potty. We haven’t really been taking him regularly; on occasion, we sit him down on the toilet, usually at bath time. However, today, after stating as much, he started to squat. I quickly ran him to the toilet where he peed a little, and pooped a lot!

I hope we are on our way to a daytime diaper-free household.

Woohoo!

Of course, as a proud parent, I had to capture the moment. Gotta love the iPhone…

Monday, June 7th, Christopher, Matteo and I met Mommy Sara for lunch. We spent about an hour together catching up on Matteo’s milestones and listening to Mommy’s new adventures since our last visit. During our visit, Matteo turned to Mommy and said, “Momma, Momma.” I hesitated to see Mommy’s response. Though I was afraid she might get upset, I was hoping she would be happy to know that our son, her son, recognizes his Mommy.

She couldn’t have been happier.

Mommy took lots of pictures during our visit. Mommy sent this picture to us.

Visiting with Mommy

Christopher also was excited to see Mommy Sara. Since he hears about Mommy Stacey and Mommy Sara all the time, I think he was excited to be able to see her in person and be able to put a person to a name and/or photograph.

We really hope Mommy Stacey calls soon to set up a visit.

On Saturday, after the boys had awakened from their naps, and Daddy had returned from his day of leisure, Dad, Daddy and the boys hopped into the car to head to Peet’s for afternoon coffee and a snack. While getting into the car, Christopher emphatically stated that he wanted to get his cookie from La Farine, a French bakery that happens to be two doors down from Peet’s. A reasonable request, I thought. I prefer some of their cookies over those at Peet’s.

As we headed down the street, Mike and I were talking about our upcoming dinner date to celebrate my birthday and who of our friends was attending. I also reminded him that we needed to stop by the post box to mail a letter. In the middle of our conversation, we hear, “Excuse me. Excuse me. Excuse me, Daddy.” In unison, we replied, “Yes?” Christopher asked, “Where are we going?” I informed him that we needed to stop by the post office to mail a letter, after which we would head to Peet’s.

Clearly, we have gone to Peet’s far too much…

Matteo and I went to Sports Authority yesterday to purchase a left-handed baseball glove for Christopher who loves to play baseball. He even asked for a glove “for my birthday”. After making our purchase, I strolled Matteo out to the car only to find a pair of white socks in his hand – a cheap pair, I might add. I quickly made an about-face, strolled back into the store and said, “I am turning in my son.” The clerk, who handled our previous purchase, looked bewildered until I handed her the pair of white socks. She laughed, said “thank you for returning them”, and bid us adieu.

All the while, I kept thinking of the time Grandma Kathi was caught for shoplifting at a local store in Gilroy. Like our situation, she was shopping with a little one, one of my nephews. Sadly for her, she did not realize what happened; the store security did, however. They did not believe her when she explained the situation. She did not have to do any time, which is great ’cause I don’t think she would have faired well in the pokie. The Gilroy Dispatch posted a blurb about her “theft”. For a 911 dispatcher, she was mortified. Her colleagues and family thought it was hilarious.

For Easter, Nana and Pop-pop and Grandma Kathi gave Christopher and Matteo an Easter basket. In each basket, Christopher was excited to find jelly beans – excited once he ate one and realized how wonderful they were. Nana and Pop-pop’s basket came with a rather large bag of jelly beans. One day after school, we ate a few as a special treat. Every few days, and sometimes several times a day, Christopher would ask if may have some jelly beans. The discussion usually goes like this…

Christopher: “May I have some jelly beans, Daddy.”
Dad or Daddy: “No.”
Christopher: “But why?” or “Why not?”
We take this opportunity to explain that you cannot eat jelly beans for breakfast, or lunch or every day for that matter.

This morning, while Mike was getting dressed and I was getting Matteo dressed, Christopher said he was “going to play a little bit.” Yet, he was very, very quiet. I realized pretty quickly what he was doing. As I called to him, Mike went to the living room to find Christopher sitting on a chair eating jelly beans. We threw the bag in the trash. I know…we are terrible Dads. Whatever…

When I entered the living room, said goodbye to Mike, who was departing for work, I turned to Christopher and said, “you cannot eat jelly beans for breakfast.” He looked at me and replied, “I only ate two, Daddy” as if I was making a big deal out of nothing.

Smart kid…
