On Sunday, we met with Mommy Sara for lunch. We always enjoy our time together, whether it is at our house or out having lunch or dinner. Sunday’s get together was especially meaningful not only for Mike and me, but also particularly for Matteo and Mommy Sara. Since starting school, Matteo has been asking about Mommy quite a bit. Incidentally, at school there is a little girl who apparently cries, “I want my mommy,” which has affected Matteo in some way. The result has been that on occasion he mentions “mommy”, calls her on his phone to say “Hi”, or says that he misses her.

When we departed, we felt quite conflicted. Our hearts are happy with the love we have for our boys, yet they ache for their mommies.

To Mommy Stacey and Mommy Sara – We are very lucky to be raising such wonderful, smart, handsome, funny, witty, active young boys. We cannot begin to thank you for the gift that you have given us.

On Friday, March 11, we celebrated Matteo’s birthday. He was fortunate this year; his birthday fell on a weekday. Our family-only tradition has been to celebrate weekday birthdays at Fenton’s Creamery. This year, Grandma Johnie, David and Aunt Jessica joined the festivities. As usual, we had a great time – the calm before the storm!

The following day we celebrated with 21 of Matteo’s friends and family, including our very special guest, Mommy Sara. She joined us around 2pm, and stayed till about 8pm. We cannot begin to express our gratitude for her willingness to maintain contact. Sadly, Grandma Kathi and great-Grandma Dot (aka GDot) could not join us; both were sick. Interestingly enough, we almost cancelled. For most of the week leading up to the party, Christopher had been ill.

So what’s new? Matteo is still mastering going to the toilet. He has been quite the trooper! His verbal skills exploded with full-on sentences – still waters run deep! The other morning, from his crib, we hear, “Daddy, my nose is leaving!” Poor thing had a runny nose.

I have taken an unexplained break from blogging. Once we completed our kitchen and family room renovation, and moved back in to the rooms, we had to prepare for Mike’s parents’ visit. One thing led to another, blah, blah, blah.

So here goes…

We finished our kitchen and family room renovation! The renovation took 11 weeks…If you are interested in viewing the project, click on the RENOVATION tab.

Mike’s parents came for a week-long visit. We had not seen them since the Christmas holiday. Lots to report…
We hosted a BBQ at our house with Mike’s parents and my Mom in attendance. We also invited Mommy Sara, who graciously accepted. How lucky are we…

We also went out for breakfast, played with the pinwheels at the pinwheel garden, and went to the park. For the 4th of July, we went to Grandma Kathi’s house for a BBQ.

Monday, June 7th, Christopher, Matteo and I met Mommy Sara for lunch. We spent about an hour together catching up on Matteo’s milestones and listening to Mommy’s new adventures since our last visit. During our visit, Matteo turned to Mommy and said, “Momma, Momma.” I hesitated to see Mommy’s response. Though I was afraid she might get upset, I was hoping she would be happy to know that our son, her son, recognizes his Mommy.

She couldn’t have been happier.

Mommy took lots of pictures during our visit. Mommy sent this picture to us.

Visiting with Mommy

Christopher also was excited to see Mommy Sara. Since he hears about Mommy Stacey and Mommy Sara all the time, I think he was excited to be able to see her in person and be able to put a person to a name and/or photograph.

We really hope Mommy Stacey calls soon to set up a visit.

To Mommy Stacey and Mommy Sara,

Parents make sacrifices for their children all the time. But you made the ultimate sacrifice.
Thank you.
Your sacrifice made our family whole.
Your strength allowed us to fall so madly in love with two little boys.
Thank you.

In the meantime, Matteo and I went to Peet’s for coffee – well the coffee was for me, of course – and breakfast. Matteo ate his yogurt, and when finished, stared out the window at the people, cars and rain. As we sat there enjoying our time together, Matteo’s mom, Sara, sent a text to check in with us. I took this photo and sent it to her. Hopefully, we will see her for Matteo’s birthday. Can you believe his birthday is in two months? Wow…

Today’s start was no different than any other. When Christopher awoke, he beckoned, “daddy!” After changing his diaper, we began walking out of his room on a mission to get milk. On a table near the door, sits a picture of dad, daddy, mom Stacey and Christopher. As we approached the door of Christopher’s room, we said, “good morning, Stacey.” He knows her by name or by mom Stacey. Yet, today, he asked, “who’s that, daddy?” Incidentally, he asks this question quite frequently these days. In fact, on the way home from an errand today, he asked who the bicyclist was as if dad and daddy know everyone. Anyway, I told him that Stacey was his mommy. He replied emphatically, “my mommy!” Everything is his…

Hi Stacey,
We talk to Christopher about you all the time. We want to make sure he knows how much you love him. Wherever you are, we want you to know that we often think of you. We hope you are well, and trust that one day when you are ready we will hear from you.
Love, Mike, Michael, Christopher and Matteo

Though we scheduled the get together at 3 pm, during the middle of a workday, we were pleased with the turnout with one exception. Grandma Kathi and great-grandma Dot were no shows. Grandma, who is still nursing her broken leg and broken arm, but can drive, was the designated driver. She forgot! Ouch. I see big Christmas presents this year. Huge!

Christina, John and the boys stayed until 8 pm. A good time was had by all…

Here are a few photos…

Last night, we had dinner with mommy Sara. We were so excited, and perhaps a bit nervous to see her. After all, we had not seen her since that first week after she left the hospital. Granted, we text/email about once weekly, but it is not the same.

We waited about 20 minutes for the table to be ready, and during that time Sara arrived with her cousin. Incidentally, Sara looked great. With much excitement, we told her all about Matteo and some of his milestones. Sara was surprised (and not so surprised) to see how big he has gotten. He really is big. Just the other day, we dressed him in one of his new 6-month outfits. Yes…I said 6 months! What are they putting in the formula these days? In all fairness to our little piggy, the outfit is a bit on the small side.

We spent the rest of the evening catching up, engaging in small talk, and discussing what is best for Matteo when it comes to future contact. Let’s just say that we were pleased that Sara was very open when it came to not only continuing our text/email exchanges, but also to future visits.

We took this first picture of Matteo with his mommy. Both Mike and I had to wipe tears away from our eyes as we watched…

Sara was very captivated by Matteo’s eye color. And, so are we. So we offered to take some very close-up pics to share with her…and you.
